New Life in our Planting

Updated: Jul 2, 2019

Planting new rainforest will one day be home to iconic animals like Cassowaries, but it begins with the little guys moving in first. This is a 4 O'Clock Moth caterpillar (Dysphania fenestrata) feeding on the leaves of its food plant - a young Corky Bark tree (Carallia brachiata). Always exciting to see, as, in this area of planting, the young trees have been in the ground for just 5 months. It's doing a pretty good job of eating all the leaves, but that is OK. It will soon pupate and stop feeding and the tree will rapidly recover.
